Tee - I LOVE YOU

When I was a child, I struggled to feel my mother’s love. In Japan, where I grew up, saying "I love you" was not a common practice, and my mother was always strict with me, rarely taking the time to listen to my thoughts. To me, our relationship felt hopelessly one-sided, and we lacked any real mutual communication. Even so, looking back now, I can see that my mother, no matter how angry she might have been, always cooked meals for me and drove me to and from places every day. These were all actions rooted in her care for me, something I only understand now. At the time, however, love felt like an incomprehensible foreign language to me. And yet, by changing my perspective, I believe that its presence can indeed be seen.

幼い頃の私は、母の愛をうまく感じ取ることができませんでした。私が育った日本では、「愛してる」という言葉を口にする習慣があまりありませんでしたし、母は常に私に厳しく、私の話を聞いてくれることはほとんどありませんでした。それは私にとって絶望的に一方的で、相互的なコミュニケーションがうまく取れていませんでした。それでも、振り返ってみると、母はどんなに怒っていても毎日食事を作り、送り迎えをしてくれていました。それらはすべて私を思っての行動だったのだと、今では理解できます。しかし当時の私にとって、愛はまるで難解な外国語のようでした。それでも視点を変えれば、その存在は確かに見えてくるでしょう。
